Journal in Germany's defence

Appeal for financial help to keep afloat the German journal Die Kriegsschuldfrage (The War Guilt Question), February 1924.

Successive governments of the post-war German republic devoted considerable time and money to the task of disproving the claim - made in Article 231 of the Treaty of Versailles - that Germany was responsible for the outbreak of the First World War. This financial appeal was made on behalf of a journal published by the government-backed 'Society and Central Office for Research into the Causes of the War' in February 1924. In the straitened economic circumstances of the time, with Germany only just beginning to recover from hyperinflation, it needed urgent financial support to stay afloat.
