Soldiers and civilians in Galicia

Report of a British eyewitness recently returned from Galicia, 26 March 1915.

This report was submitted to the Cabinet on the basis of the eyewitness testimony of a British subject who returned from the Habsburg province of Galicia on 17 March 1915 - just five days before Russian forces captured the garrison of Przemysl. It provides interesting insights into the merits of the respective armies (with the 'splendidly equipped' Russians and Germans standing in stark contrast to the Austrians 'in rags'); the 'treachery' of the Galician Jews towards Russia and the indifference of the Poles to the conflict in their midst.
