Gallipoli campaign: photographs |
|
| The first photograph shows Anzac Cove,
the beach on the NW side of the Gallipoli peninsula. Australian and New
Zealand troops landed at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915 but remained trapped
there, unable to push their Turkish counterparts further inland. The second
photograph shows the gravestone near Cape Helles of Captain Harold Cawley
(whose service record is in WO 374/12951), killed in action on 24 September
1915. The third photograph shows locals standing outside a destroyed flour
mill in the town of Gallipoli (on the NE of the peninsula). Catalogue reference: WO 317/1 (1915-16) |
