This extract from the official dispatches
for the Battle of Jutland covers a 40-minute period, during the second phase
of the engagement between the German and British naval fleets. The 'large
explosion in Enemy's line' reported at 6.17 pm may refer to the attack on
the Lützow, the only German battle cruiser to be sunk during
the battle. Before going down, however, the Lützow managed
to blow up the British battle cruiser HMS Invincible (noted in a
despatch at 6.30 pm), killing all but six of the 1,000 men on board.
