The Bolshevik threat |

| Appendix to the War Cabinet report
for the week ending 8 January 1919 on 'the progress of Bolshevism' in Europe. This report was written at a time when the Bolshevik threat in Europe was widely regarded as serious. In January 1919, the Allies were embroiled in fighting alongside anti-Bolshevik forces in Russia. There was a Communist dictatorship in Hungary. Most importantly of all, Germany was in the midst of the Spartacist uprising, a Communist-led revolt that briefly succeeded in 'seizing the executive power in Berlin'. However, as this appendix notes, Bolshevik prospects in many other European countries such as Denmark, France and Italy were far less sanguine.
