In 1871 the Trades Union Congress established a parliamentary committee
to lobby for legislation. This document from 1879 shows a list of
questions to be put to prospective parliamentary candidates. The TUC
eventually supported the setting up of the Labour Representation Committee
(forerunner of the Labour Party) to sponsor trade union issues in
Parliament and elect their own MPs.
