|This document is the Crown's list of eyewitness accounts of John
Lovell's role in the Newport rising. According to Henry Evans's statement,
Lovell was not just part of the mob but one of the leaders. He observed
Lovell 'say something to the mob and upon that the attack commenced'.
Several of the witnesses state that they saw Lovell with a gun in
his hand. Given the weight of evidence against him, it is not surprising
that Lovell pleaded guilty at his trial.
