This Women's Freedom League banner was unfurled from the Ladies'
Gallery in the chamber of the House of Commons during a protest on
28 October 1908. It proclaims the widely held view that taxing women
while denying them the vote was blatantly unjust. In protest, they
set up the Women's Tax Resistance League in 1910 and refused to pay
taxes. They also refused to be registered in the 1911 census.
