British sovereignty and the EEC, 1971
| This brief, prepared by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, was
designed to reassure people that membership of the EEC would not affect
British sovereignty. Despite Edward Heath's enthusiasm to join the
EEC, many people feared that important decisions affecting Britain
would no longer be taken by democratically elected politicians at
