Men, women and children aged 6 to 80 were captured and sold into
slavery in West Africa. This extract from a list of enslaved Africans
working at Cape Coast Castle shows that enslaved Africans were kept
to supply labour at British forts, as well as being shipped out. Their
skills varied: bricklayers, doctor's boys and washerwomen are included
in the list.
