Royal African Company and the Arms Trade

This document shows the amount of arms and ammunition at Cape Coast Castle in 1771. It illustrates not only how heavily armed the forts were, but also how arms and ammunition were shipped to the coast of West Africa from Britain. Some of the stores listed here were probably used as barter to acquire enslaved Africans.
