This document is the registered
probate copy of the nuncupative will of Elizabeth
Nicolai, dated 21 July 1723.
(Catalogue reference:
PROB 11/593 quire 195)
Elizabeth was married and therefore, required consent from her
husband to leave a will. The document lacks many of the standard
phrases of a last will and testament. This may reflect the fact
that a nuncupative will was often made by a person who was extremely
ill or even dying. Elizabeth would have signed the original will
herself. The names of three witnesses are given.
Please note:
The document is written in a cursive hand.
The date clause is italic.
