High Court of the Admiralty: Letters of marque for John Jelfe's Jamaica Gally, dated 1708.

  1. 22 Aprill 1708
  2. Appeared personally M[aste]r Jelfe, and on the behalfe
  3. of Cap[tai]n Rich[ar]d Parret now at Bristoll produced a
  4. Warrant from His Roy[a]ll Highness Prince George
  5. of Denmarke etc Lord High Admirall of Great Britain
  6. Ireland etc and of all Her Ma[jes]ties Plantations etc for
  7. the granting of a Comm[issi]on or L[ett]res of Marque to
  8. the said Rich[a]rd Parret, and in pursuance of Her
  9. Ma[jes]ties Instructions to Privateers made the following
  10. Declaration vizt that the said Capt[ain] Parret his Ship
  11. is called the Jamaica Gally, and is of the burthen
  12. of ab[ou]t one hundred & seaventy Tonns, that the
  13. said Rich[ar]d Parret goeth Capt[ain] of her, that she
  14. carryes Eight Guns, twenty five men, twenty five
  15. Small Armes, twenty Cutlaces, Six barrells of
  16. powder, Twenty Rounds of great Shott, and
  17. ab[ou]t Five hund[re]d w[eigh]t of small Shott, that the
  18. Said Ship is victualled for Six months, has two
  19. Suites of Sailes, three Anchors, three Cables,
  20. and ab[ou]t two hund[re]d w[eigh]t of spare Cordage, that
  21. W[illia]m Parret goes Lieu-ten[an]t, Stephen Williams
  22. Gunner, M[aste]r Jones Gunner, Benja[men] Bush
  23. Carpentar and Humphrey Williams Cooke of the
  24. Said Ship; And that W[illia]m Swimmer Esq[uir]e
  25. Henry Swimmer, Abraham Elton, & John
  26. Elbridge of Bristoll Merch[an]ts, and he the
  27. Declarent are the Owners & Setters out of the
  28. Said Ship.
