Advanced searching of the families and estates index

The advanced search of the Family and Estates Index offers a more focused search of this index. Searches can be conducted by name or peerage title and may be refined by seat, county and/or date.

Name

To search for a family by name or title enter one or more elements in the Name field, such as 'Noel' or 'Gainsborough' for the Noel family, Earls of Gainsborough.

Seat

To refine search enter a seat name, such as 'Exton'.

County

Further topographical searches can be conducted by electing a county from the drop down list.

Date

The search may be refined further by entering a date. NOTE: if 1790 is entered this will retrieve all entries which cover this year, for example 1650-1920.

NOTE: When making a search on the Families and estates Index, do not be tempted to fill in every data field on the search screen. Work from the general to the particular – not vice versa!
