Outward passenger lists digitisation project

15 May 2006

Under the Licensed Internet Associateship scheme The National Archives has signed a license with 1837 Online.com to scan (there is no microform of this series) and place online the entire BT 27 (Outwards Passenger Lists 1890-1960) series. The aim is to have records online towards the end of this year. As part of the license there will be a free onsite service for our readers.

Readers are being advised to contact us before they travel to check that the records are available.

It is not possible to provide a detailed scanning schedule but the removal of boxes for scanning is being managed via our document ordering system so members of staff can check the immediate availability of any box in the series using this system. The series is being scanned by decade and we are working to minimise any disruption to availability. We will ensure that the number of pieces out of accessibility will be kept to a minimum at any one time.

Please check that the pieces you wish to consult are not affected before you travel.

If you would like to know more about this online service please send an email to: passengerlists@1837online.com
