19 January

The Friends of The National Archives present an evening lecture, 'Science and sustainability in cultural heritage: Building a resilient future for The National Archives', that will examine the challenges faced by cultural institutions at this critical time.

Economic uncertainty, fears about the world's climate and availability of fossil fuels are the issues raising big questions for cultural organisations, like The National Archives, about how they perform their roles, connect to communities and contribute to goverment targets on carbon reduction.

Introduced by Oliver Morley, Acting Chief Executive of The National Archives, the event features presentations by Professor May Cassar, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Heritage (UCL) and Nancy Bell, Head of Collection Care at The National Archives.
