This extract from Nelson’s last journal is referred and generally known as Nelson’s prayer, which was written on the eve of the Battle of Trafalgar. Knowing that he was writing on what he knew to be a defining moment in history, it is interesting to note that perhaps for the sake of his public image he ensured more than one copy was made. Another copy is held by the National Maritime Museum.
