Letter by Nelson to the Government of Denmark, 2 April 1801

This letter shows the extraordinary range of skills that a naval officer of Nelson’s time required and the type of matters that they dealt with. Here Nelson, as a representative of his government and country, demonstrates considerable diplomatic skills in negotiating an armistice with Denmark. Parker, Nelson’s superior, is conspicuous in his absence in these negotiations whilst Nelson took the lead.
