County help

The counties used are the ancient counties that existed prior to the 1974 boundary changes.

Cities which are counties within themselves, for example York city which lay outside of all three Yorkshire ridings, have not been treated as separate counties. For the sake of simplicity they have been placed within one of the nearest counties. York has been placed within Yorkshire, West Riding.
