The appraisal policy defines the methods used to determine which government records are worthy of permanent preservation.

Appraisal toolkits
The National Archives has developed a set of toolkits for the appraisal of digital records. They are ideally suited for the appraisal of digital records created in agencies and Non-Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs), but may be adapted to apply to a function or division of a central government department, or to apply to an agency's paper records.
