Catalogue entry full details display

The Details screen displays full catalogue information for a given catalogue reference in a single page. To browse the catalogue from any entry, click

Only pieces (generally a whole box, volume) or items (generally a file or bundle) may be orderable. Click on Request this button to make an online order for copies or to place an advanced order to access the records in person.

Use the Jump to options to go staight to:

  • Context information and links to the parent entries (showing the catalogue entry in its archival context).
  • Summary information: title, legal status, language, names of record creators, covering dates, physical description (number of series, volumes, files, etc.), name of the institution that holds the records (place of deposit) and note.
  • Access: information on access conditions such as document closed or retained, restrictions on use (for example, a warning that 3 working days notice is necessary to produce records stored off-site), record opening date, etc.

The date in the Record Opening Date field should be treated with caution. When the record opening date is a future date, the record is currently closed and it indicates the date on which the record will be open and available. If the record opening date is a past date it may indicate the date on which the record was opened but bear in mind that this date is automatically generated. It does not refer to the date when the record was transferred to The National Archives.
  • Content: describes the content of the entry, the arrangement of the records, publication details, links to related and related or separated material (including references to destroyed records), etc.
  • Admin History: administrative and/or biographical history information.
  • Index Terms: Corporate, Personal, Places and Subject index entries which are used as access points for the Topic Index Search.

Bookmarks and Saved searches: users logging in with their reader's ticket number can save entries as personal bookmarks or searches to be run from their homepage at a later date.
