Immigration from the Americas, West Indies, Australia, Africa, India (and perhaps the Mediterranean):

What records are available?

Ships' passenger lists exist only for the period 1878 - 1960. There are no passenger lists for air travel.

No passenger lists exist for those immigrating from Russia and Eastern Europe. However, if the subject of your search was Jewish, there are some alternative sources of information

It is unlikely that you will find records covering those immigrating from the Mediterranean unless the ship called at a United Kingdom port en route from elsewhere in the world.

For immigration from the Caribbean, Irish, Jewish and South Asian communities, take a look at the www.movinghere.org.ukExternal link - opens in a new window site which documents 200 years of migration to England.

When did they travel?

1878-1890

1890-1960

From 1960 onwards no passenger lists have been kept.
