Inland Revenue

The Board of Inland Revenue was created in 1849 by the amalgamation of the Board of Stamps and Taxes with the Board of Excise. The Excise was merged with Customs in 1909. Ham´s Customs Year Book lists officers of the Inland Revenue as well as the Customs and Excise. We hold copies of the publication from 1875 to 1930.

Staff records

Establishment lists of officials from 1869 to 1920 can be found in the series IR 147. They include staff in Scotland and Ireland. Details are given of employment, salary, dates of appointment and promotion; sometimes date of birth is given. No personnel files appear to have survived, but information can sometimes be found in the Treasury Papers in T 1 and in the policy files in IR 81. Records of the Inland Revenue Benevolent Association in IR 92 may provide some details of members.
