List of the nominees appointed by contributors of the 1789 State Tontine. extract. Cat ref: NDO 2/15 f.145.

Part of a printed alphabetical list of the nominees appointed by contributors to the 1789 State Tontine, published in 1792. Order number 1783 in series one (children aged between 0 and 20) relates to Matilda Douglas, daughter of James and Elizabeth Douglas of Orchardton, Galloway, Scotland. She was the last surviving of the original 3,495 nominated lives, and died on 31 October 1887. The numbered order itself, in the ledger of contributors (NDO 2/11) shows that her father was the proprietor, and that when he died in 1864 his three shares were assigned to other family members. Matilda was noted in that ledger as the wife of William Maitland.
