First World War onwards
Service records of officers and warrant officers who saw service in the First World War are in the series ADM 196
. They give date of birth, wife´s name, date and place of marriage, name and profession of father, dates of commission and promotion, dates of service on each ship, comments on character and conduct, dates of retirement and death. The amount of information will vary depending on personal circumstances. For some individuals with long service this will include the Second World War and beyond.
After the First World War
Service records of commissioned officers whose service began after May 1917 and warrant officers whose service began after 1931 and are on longer alive are held by Navy Search, TNT Archive Service, Tetron Point, William Nadin Way, Swadlincote, Derbyshire DE11 0TB. Records of living ex-servicemen are still held by the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency .
