Hospital musters

Sick men might be sent to sick quarters, and put ashore to naval hospitals or on stationary hospital ships. Surviving musters of patients are in the series ADM 102. These records are arranged by name of ship or hospital. Sea-going ships will be found in ADM 36 and ADM 37. The musters of the Royal Naval Hospital, Malta for 1811 to 1879 are in ADM 304/14-18 and  22-24. Musters for Haslar Hospital, Portsmouth for 1852 to 1895 and 1906 are in ADM 304/36-41 and 88.

Greenwich Hospital

Entry books of ratings admitted to Greenwich Hospital between 1705 and 1745 are in ADM 73/51. Other records for warrant officers and ratings for 1704 to 1808 are in ADM 73/36 (indexed by ADM 73/37) and for 1764 to 1812 are in ADM 73/38 (indexed by ADM 73/39). Early applications for admittance into Greenwich Hospital from 1737 to 1763 are in ADM 6/223-224; later registers covering 1781 to 1784 and 1816 to 1859 are in ADM 6/225-266. Applications for admittance into the hospital between 1790 and 1865 are also in series ADM 73. The records contain pensioners´ admission papers and proofs of service. They are arranged by surname and date of application. See also pensions.

Greenwich Hospital School

Founded in 1712 for the children of seamen killed at sea, application papers survive from 1728 to 1870 in ADM 73/154-389, arranged by initial letter of the applicant´s surname. Further records of children admitted to the school can be found in ADM 65, ADM 66, ADM 67, ADM 73, ADM 161 and ADM 169.
