. The ledgers for 1795 to 1824 in ADM 26/28-38
cover payments to the next of kin of warrant officers and ratings serving on ships in home waters. They are in date order and contain surname indexes. Further registers covering 1795 to 1839 are in ADM 26/1-20

. Registers relating to ratings serving on ships in foreign waters for the period 1838 to 1851 are in ADM 26/39-54
, but these are arranged by ships´ name. They often give the name and address of the person to whom the remittance was sent and include the rating´s signature consenting to the payment. The earliest remittance registers, dating from 1758 to 1798, cover payments to the next of kin of ratings on ships stationed at Plymouth and are in ADM 174/291-293
.
Allotment Registers
Under the Naval Act 1795, warrant officers and ratings could allot part of their wages for the maintenance of wives or mothers or other dependants. Allotment registers for 1795 to 1812 and 1830 to 1852 are in series ADM 27
. They are not easy to use, as they are not arranged by surname. Up to 1812 they are arranged by ship´s name, but the later ones from 1830 are arranged by allotment number, to which there is no index. There is a ship index for 1830 to 1840 in the Open Reading Room. Allotment declarations of ratings on promotion from 1837 to 1852 can be found in ADM 27/114-120
. Information about the recipients increases after 1830. Details of date and place of marriage of wives, baptisms and names of children, and full addresses are given.
