Cape of Good Hope Original Correspondence in CO 48 includes letters and papers from settlers about grants of land in the Cape from 1814 to 1825. There are also Entry books in CO 49, Registers of Correspondence in CO 336 and Registers of Out-Letters in CO 462.

There are two published works on British settlers in South Africa: P Philip, British Residents at the Cape, 1795-1819 (Cape Town, 1981) and E Bull, Aided Immigration from Britain to South Africa, 1857-1867 (Pretoria, 1991). Both were compiled using original resources.
