Criminal registers

Criminal registers giving the names, alleged offences, dates and places of trials, and sentences of people tried on indictment at Quarter Sessions and Assizes in England and Wales can be found in Home Office series HO 27 from 1805 to 1892. The registers are arranged by county. There is a separate series for the county of Middlesex from 1791 to 1849 in HO 26. The registers will tell you whether the case was held at the Assizes or Quarter Sessions and therefore where to look for records.
