These days we live very busy lives, and in the rush to keep up with the present we rather lose sight of the past. Yet a sense of who we are - our roots - is perhaps even more important now than at any other time, when more of our daily lives are spent interacting online through email or via phone or text rather than face-to-face conversations.
We tend to live and work further away from our families, and therefore lose sight of where we have come from and who we are related to. Researching your family's history is therefore a great way to discover your roots. You can investigate wider history through relatives who lived through some of the momentous events we read about in text books, or see on television.
