Civil registers

Indexes for English and Welsh births, marriages and deaths abroad are available at the The National Archives. They include Armed Services registers of births, marriages and deaths overseas.

The National Archives

Some records of births, marriages and deaths overseas from 1627 to 1969 are in RG 32Links to the Catalogue (indexed by RG 43Links to the Catalogue).

 
Church registers

From 1627, church registers were often returned to the Bishop of London.

Some of these are now in The National Archives, but more are held at the Guildhall LibraryExternal website - link opens in a new window.
