Tracing your ancestors

A step-by-step guide using the Darwin family as a case study. The talk will introduce researchers to the most important genealogical sources available at The National Archives and elsewhere, including birth, marriage and death indexes, census returns, wills and death duty records, as well as some of the main websites for family history research.
Gerry Toop has worked at The National Archives since June 1972. He worked at the Family Records Centre until it closed in March 2008. He is now part of the Military, Maritime, Transport and Public History team in the Advice and Records Knowledge Department.
