Victorian women prisoners

Tuesday 7 October, 14:00 - 15:00

This talk will look at records of women prisoners from 1853 to 1887, and in particular the type of information you are likely to find in The National Archives' record series PCOM4 - records of females released early on licence. It will also focus on certain individuals in order to tell their tales, and to illustrate the depth of information available.

Chris Heather has worked at the Public Record Office and The National Archives for 23 years in various departments but most recently in the Modern Domestic Team, concentrating on Home Office records concerning prisons and workhouses.

This is a free event. Tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis on the day and cannot be booked in advance.
