Captain Cook
Cook´s second voyage (Resolution) log book. Watercolour of ship and iceberg. Log kept by J Gilbert between 3 January 1772 and 22 March 1775.
Cook and his ships pushed their search for a Great Southern Continent to the logical extreme, becoming the first men to see Antarctica. The sheer scale of their discoveries is emphasised by the tiny ship shown amidst the rocks and ice at the bottom of this page.
