Transfer to The National Archives
The transfer project was responsible for developing a transfer tool capable of delivering a package of records and metadata from government departments to The National Archives. It was also responsible for defining the transfer process, up to the point when the records are loaded into the preservation storage system, including definition of the transfer metadata set and ongoing maintenance of such metadata.
Project status July 2008
This project, which worked very closely with Appraisal, Technology Watch, Preservation and Maintenance and Metadata and Cataloguing projects, has completed the installation and testing of the Transfer System. The Transfer System, incorporating the Generic Metadata Management System (GMMS), allows for the transfer of digital records with a minimal level of input from Record Managers in Government Departments. The metadata is stored in the GMMS. With the completion of the migration of existing electronic records from the digital archive into the new digital object store, the Seamless Flow process is now fully operational for all new accessions of electronic records.
With the completion of all key deliverables, the End Project Report was approved and the project has been closed.
