Second Great Seal of Elizabeth I (SC13/N3)
Second Great Seal of Elizabeth I (SC13/N3)

In this session, students examine some of Elizabeth I's speeches and letters, in order to find out more about the personality of this formidable monarch.

Students work with a variety of original documents from Elizabeth I's reign, including the Declaration of Intent from 1558, her Marriage Speech of 1563 and the Golden Speech of 1601.

At the end of the session, students will also be shown some 'treasures' from the archives, including membrane portraits of Elizabeth I and the famous letter that she wrote to her sister Mary Tudor, following the Wyatt Rebellion of 1554, pleading her innocence.
