Costumed actors portraying PM Herbert Asquith and a suffragette
Costumed actors portraying PM Herbert Asquith and a suffragette

Your students will be transported back to the year 1913, where they will become journalists for either a newspaper that supports or opposes the Suffragette movement. They will be attending a Press Conference, which is being held to find out the views of both the Prime Minister Asquith and a Suffragette (both played by costumed actors), on a variety of issues.

After introducing themselves, 'Asquith' and the Suffragette will invite questions on a range of issues such as militancy, the Cat and Mouse Act. (Students will have prepared questions using copies of documents held at the National Archives before the videoconference)

After the 'press conference' ends, an Education Officer will introduce your students to the National Archives and show them some interesting documents related to the Suffragette movement, including some fascinating documents only released by the Archives in 2006.
