IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. The xxxth daie of November in the yeare of our Lord God 1601, I John Lawraunce of Humberton Streete in the Parish of Hackney in the countie of Middlesex Yeoman beinge at this [pointe?] tyme sick in bodye but of perfect and good remembraunce lawde and thanks be to Allmightie God for the same doe make this my last will and Testament in the manner and forme followinge

First I geve and bequeth my Soule to Allmightie God assuredli beleevinge to be saved by the deathe and merritte of Jesus Christ my onlie saviour and redeemer and my bodies to the earthe in hope of the resurrection to eternall felicitie

Item I geve and bequeathe towards the reperacion of Hackney Churche xx [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Hughe Johnson Viccar of Hackney xx [shillings] I doe request him to preache at my funerall and for the same his sermon I geve and bequeath him vi [shillings] viii d and I will that both be paid to him within one weeke after my deathe by my brother Pate and sonne Thomas

Item I geve and bequeathe unto the poore to be distributed the daie of my buriall xxvi [shillings] viii d

Item I geve and bequeath unto Agnes Pate Widdowe my Mother in lawe in money iiii pounds and I confess I owe unto her at this pointe tyme xvi pounds which I will also to be truelie paid unto her

item I geve and bequeathe unto Edward Mathewe my Sonne in lawe my ratte collored gowne faced with blacke lambe to be delivered to him within x dayes after my deathe

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Arthur Mathewe my grand Childe in money xl [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Agnes Mathewe my grand Childe in money xl [shillings] and my mynde is that if anie of theis two children dye before they come to the age of one and twentye yeares or tyme of mariage that the survivor shall have the others parte and that theire legacies shall be delivered within one yeare after my deathe unto Edward Mathewe theire Father for theire use untill they come to age

Item I geve and bequeathe unto my brother in lawe Christopher Pate my best blacke cloake faced with dutche fustian and in money xl [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto my Sister Margerie Pate in money xl [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Arthur Norton my brother in lawe in money xl [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Marie Norton my Sister in money xl [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Nicholas Kidwellie and Dorcase Kidwellie my Sisters Children xx [shillings] a peece

Item I geve and bequeath unto my Cosin Dorcas nowe the Wiefe of Mr Rogers sometyme Preacher at Stratford the bowe xx [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto my Cosin Edith West the Wief of John West v [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Christopher Ellyott Parish Clarke of Hackney v [shillings] to be paid him within one weeke after my deathe

item I geve and bequeathe to Maude Hardick the Wief of John Hardick v [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeathe unto Margaret Audelie Widdowe now dwellinge in Clapton my ringe of Gold havinge a stone with a greene bird in it to be delivered her within x daies after my deathe.

Item I geve and bequeathe to William - Suzan Alden and Margaret Malkyn my Servauntes x [shillings] a peece to be paid a moneth after my death

item I geve and bequeath unto Edith Garret some tymes my Servaunte x [shillings] to be paid a monthe after my deathe

item I geve and bequeath unto my doughter Henrie Reeves Wief one feather bed and one bolster of feathers the which she paid for the makinge of and the bedsted wheron it lyes and a coverlett and - blanket and the curtins and cyrtyn rodde and a mattrice and a matt

Item more I geve and bequeathe unto my Doughter Henrie Reeves Wief v paire of sheete iiii of towe and one of flax to be taken out of the greate Chest where the Box stands

Item I geve and bequeathe unto my Doughter the Wief of Henrie Reeve one dozen of white wrought napkins and a longe flaxon tableclothe and more I geve unto her one pillowe Beere which is all readie laid with her lynnen and also I geve her a Cowe

item more I geve unto Henrie Reeve my old night gowne faced with black Cunney and lyned with white cotton and a trundle bed under her Bed

Item more I geve and bequeathe unto my Sonn in lawe Edward Mathewe my black rise coate the best savinge one and my best canvas dublet savinge one and my black payned breeches lyned with red fustian the - beinge black

Item I will and my mynde is that those bands and bills which I have of Arther Norton and John Sweete my brothers in lawe for the payment of certaine somes of money das by those wrytunge doe appeare shall punctualie after my decease they beinge opened and redd before my Sonne Thomas Lauraunce and Joanne his Wief and my Son in lawe Edward Mathewe and Elizabeth his wief Henrie Reeve and Suzanna his Wief and a note by them taken of the somes and dayes of payment be punctualie delivered into the keepinge of Christopher Pate my Brother in lawe for and towards the discharginge of such somes of money and legacies as before and folowinge in this my last Will and Testament is expressed

Item I confesse that I doe owe unto my Sonne Thomas Lawraunce which I borrowed of him of his Wiefe porcons xv pounds which I will and my mynde is that it shall be truelie paid him

item I geve and bequeathe unto George Lauraunce my Son in money x [pounds] The reasidue of all my goods and cattalls my debts and legacies beinge paid and my funall discharged I geve and bequeathe and my mynde is that they shall be equally devided betweene Thomas Lauraunce George Lauraunce and Margery Lauraunce my children And I praye you three lovinge Friends Christopher Pate, Arther Norton and Thomas Lauraunce to see the particion with all speede after my deathe and my Will and mynde is that my Brother Christopher pate shall have the government and keepinge of George Lauraunce and his parte until the age of xxi yeres and the keepinge of Margerie Lauraunce and her parte untill the age of xxi yeres or daie of marriage

I will also that my Sister Pate my Sister Norton and my Sister Agnes Sweete my doughter Elizabeth Lauraunce my doughter in lawe Joane Lauraunce shall be called and allowed to see the particion of my goods and cattall

Item I geve and bequeathe unto my Sonne Thomas Lauraunce my black cloake faced with budgg and my black cloake layed with a silke lace lyned with bayes my black dublet my best black payned breeches my best canvess dublet and my best cloth breeches

Item my will and mynde is that if anie of my said two Children doe die before his or her parte be due that that parte shall goe and be equallie devided to the other survivinge

And I appoint Overseers of this my last Will and testament my lovinge brother in lawe Christopher Pate and Thomas Lauraunce my Sonne I hartelie prayinge them to see me buried if it may be by Elizabeth my lovinge Wief and this my last Will and testament performed. And I charge you my Sonne Thomas uppon my blessinge not to open anye chest in my bedchamber nor procure any to be opened until those parties or the most parte of them be present which I have named to bee at the Oversight of the particon and that the keyes of those chests in my chamber be punctualie delivered unto my brother in lawe Christopher Pate as also the key of my chamber Dore untill my brother Pate doe appointe a daie and geve the parties warninge to make the division and particion of my goodes and cattalls as before is expressed.

Item more my Will and mynde is that Thomas Lauraunce shall have the bagg beinge in the Chest where my apparrell lyeth with the boxes deeds and evidences belongininge to my land at Hounslow and Thistleworth as also all other Books and wrytings of myne in my howse except the box with the bande before in my Will expressed and a bundle of wrytings some tymes my Father in lawe Christopher Pate shall take and keepe or any other wrytinges belonging to my Mother Pate be founde out of the bundle shall also be delivered to my Brother Christopher Pate for the use of him and my Mother Agnes Pate.

In witness of the truthe herof and that this is my last will and testament I have herunto set my hand the daie and yeare above written in the presence of Hugh Johnson and of me Christopher Elliot parish Clarke of Hackney By me John Lauraunce Note that the enterlyning in theis presents were don by the consent of the Testator before the deliverie hereof in the presence of us above named.
