On the said day at Hakney (sic) in the highway leading between Kyngsland and Newyngton John Sheppard lais Coxe late of London shomaker assaulted Thomas Ferrys a bocher and gave him 'a meate knyfe' in the fore part of his body, on the left side of his breast, a mortal wound of which he then and there died instantly. Putting himself guilty, John Sheppard was sentenced to be hung. GDR [1571]
