Teapot design
Teapot design

This videoconference is based on the working conditions in the pottery industry of Stoke-on-Trent.

Using Design Registers and Census Returns for 1881, the students will gain an understanding of the work done in the Pottery Industry. They will then explore the working conditions for those employed by examining extracts from a Home Office Report. When considering the dangers involved in such work, documents such as a coroners' report on lead poisoning and the research of Dr Arlidge into diseases and illnesses of those employed in the industry will also be consulted.

To conclude the videconference, students will begin to think about the special rules that were brought in for those working in the Pottery Industry.
