Map of Africa produced in Britain around 1626
(Catalogue ref: CO 700 Africa0)
This map shows an image from Africa that would have interested many people in Britain at the time.
The features shown on the map tell us a lot about what interested people in Britain. The animals and African peoples fascinated the British.
The information on diseases (and the other information) may have been aimed at missionaries, explorers or other travellers.
In the map it is not clear how much of Africa is controlled by Britain c.1626. You can look at the Background to this exhibition for more information.
