  • This extract comes from a letter written on 11 September 1759. It sets out the various troop movements of the British forces in North America.
  • The fighting was between Britain and France for control of North America. It lasted from 1756-63 and so was known as the Seven Years War.
  • Britain eventually won this war. One of the decisive battles came in 1759. General Wolfe, mentioned in this letter, captured the French stronghold of Quebec.
