Extract from a letter written by the Aborigines Protection Society to the British government in 1846

The Committee will write very briefly about the natives of Australia to express our strong support of the just and important measure proposed by Lord Stanley. Fifteen per cent of the money paid by the colonists to the government for land should be set aside for the benefit of the Aborigines and used for their protection and advancement.
