This cartoon appeared in the British newspaper the Evening Standard in January
1948, around 6 months after the Marshall Plan was announced.
The cartoonist, David Low, was a critic of Stalin and Communism. However,
he also criticised Western leaders for arguing about minor details and wasting
opportunities to work together.
Every year the American news journal 'Time' Magazine announced its man of
the year. Its man of the year for 1947 was Marshall. This cartoon takes that
announcement but also points out that life will not be easy in 1948.
