  Parliamentary papers, 1847 xviii.1 547 inquiry into the General Treatment and condition in the Hulks at Woolwich. Convicts waiting to be transported were sent to the "hulks". These were disused warships, converted to prisons. Living conditions, health and discipline on the hulks were often bad, hence this report of 1847.
