Domesday logo - terms and conditions for use
The ‘Domesday’ logo device is a trademark of The National Archives. Correct usage of The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo is vital. Please read the following terms and conditions before you apply to use The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo.
Ownership
- The National Archives is the proprietor of the Domesday logo, and any copyright subsisting in and the goodwill relating to the Domesday logo.
- The benefit of all use of the Domesday logo and any additional goodwill accrued as a result of your usage of the logo or other activities in connection therewith shall inure to The National Archives.
Usage and placement
- The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo should only appear in the horizontal position and as dictated by the detailed usage guidelines.
- You may only use the version(s) of The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo supplied or approved by The National Archives.
Colours and specification
- Wherever possible, the logo should be presented in colour.
- The logo is also available in mono for publications produced in less than four colours – see usage guidelines for details.
Minimum Size
- In printed materials, the logo should be no smaller than 40mm wide.
- The minimum size of the logo on website pages should be 152 pixels wide and 60 pixels high.
Other graphics
- The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo should never appear in combination with any other symbol or icon. The logo is never to appear inside a shape, such as an oval shape. The colours of the logo must never be altered.
Proximity to other elements
- To properly stage the logo, a minimum clearance between the logo and other elements (such as text, logos, marks or any other items) must be maintained. Clear space to the width of the letter ‘O’ as dictated by the detailed usage guidelines is required around the diameter of the logo.
Other guidelines
- The logo must be used as provided by The National Archives and the colours, colour depth or design of the logo are not to be changed.
- The use of the logo is restricted to this approved purpose only. Future editions, applications or projects will require further application to The National Archives.
- The logo is not to be used for any other purpose without the specific written approval of The National Archives.
- Unless otherwise agreed, the appearance of the logo for the approved purpose must not be used in any manner whatsoever to infer that The National Archives has any administrative, financial or marketing obligations in relation to the said item or organisation.
- A copy of the item, or written confirmation of the application must be forwarded to The National Archives for its records.
Guidelines for online usage of the logo
- When using The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo in any Web page, you must adhere to the following guidelines in addition to those outlined above:
- No Alteration
The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo must not be animated or altered in any way, except as otherwise agreed by The National Archives. The logo's colour or font should not be changed. The logo must not be taken apart, changed in proportion, combined with any other words or graphics, or otherwise altered from the version provided by The National Archives.
- Minimum size
The minimum size of The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo is 152 pixels wide and 60 pixels high (refers to the non-white area of the image). The logo may be displayed at a larger size, but all elements of the logo must be increased in size proportionately.
- Positive Presentation
Your website must display The National Archives ‘Domesday’ logo in a positive manner. The logo may not be used to display The National Archives in a negative way or in any way that could reflect adversely on The National Archives.
Revisions and compliance
- The National Archives reserves the right to modify these guidelines at any time and to take action against any use that does not conform to these guidelines.
Declaration of acceptance
My organisation, its servants and its agents hereby release and indemnify The National Archives, its servants and agents from and against all actions, proceedings, claims and demands which may be brought by any person in respect of any material published in association with the use of this logo.
