Description
Petitioners: Henry Beaumont, knight; Charles Nowell, esquire; John Twycrosse, yeoman.

Nature of request: The petitioners state that Joan Beaumont who had made a lawful contract of marriage was abducted by Edward Lancaster and many others, and married despite her early lawful contract. Lancaster and others then proceeded to make assaults on Joan's servants, and her and her family's goods and property. They request that those involved be summoned by proclamation to appear before the Bench to answer the charges concerning the rape, felony or trespass, and that Joan Beaumont be handed over to the archbishop of York and Viscount Beaumont so that she can sue them. They further request that any bonds or statute merchants made in such cases made to bind the woman who has been abducted be brought before the chancellor or the justices of assize in the counties summoning the parties before them, with the power to annul any such agreements made by duress.
