How to handle parchment

   
 

When reading a large parchment roll, use weights to keep it under control.
Two bagged weights placed down, pushed apart and roll placed between them. Unrolled and more weights placed on document to hold it in place.

Use a paper marker to follow the text to avoid touching the surface of the ink.

When scrolling through the document, always push the heavier side, rather than pulling on the end.
Document rolled and unrolled, then slide in place by pushing the heavy side. Weights used to hold it in place.

Rolls can be marked for copying using folded paper markers held in place with brass paper clips. This protects the parchment from the metal.
The beginning and the end of required text is marked using paper strips and brass paper clips.
