Annotation (BT 43/68)
[Pattern name?] Odessa.
The statue in the centre of the design is of Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov (1782-1856). Vorontsov was governor of New Russia from 1823 to 1844 having fought with distinction in the resistance to Napoleon's invasion of Russia. His statue was erected in 1863 in Cathedral Square [Soviet Army Square] in Odessa, where it still stands. For an alternative version of the same design by two other Staffordshire potters see designs 211290 and 212765.
