Licensing our records
We welcome enquiries from anyone looking to develop products or services using material from our collections.
Standard non-exclusive licensing
Non-exclusive licensing allows images of documents in our collection to be reproduced by third parties. Whether you want to publish records on DVD, over the web or create and publish resources for libraries and universities, we can supply a licence to suit.
Typical royalty payments for commercial publication are:
- consumer online services: 7% net
- product development: 10% net
- institutional services: 15% net
For more information or to request a draft license agreement please contact: associates@nationalarchives.gov.uk
Licensed Internet Associateships
We have successfully digitised millions of our most popular records, in partnership with commercial publishers.
If you are interested in helping us create co-branded online services by getting involved with the digitisation, marketing and sale of genealogical, military and other records online, we are keen to work with you.
A Licensed Internet Associateship offers a number of benefits:
- preferential access - only one co-branded licence will be issued per record series
- free advice from experts at The National Archives during planning and development of the service
- hyperlinks to the co-branded service from our popular website
- promotion of the service in The National Archives' enewsletters
- publicity - The National Archives is a high-profile organisation which attracts regular press coverage and is well known among researchers
